Servant of the Lake
The new premium point-and-click adventure from Rusty Lake. You're the servant at the Vanderboom estate, and the family expects a perfect weekend. Out Aug 13, 2026 on PC and mobile — the first new Rusty Lake game in over a year.
What is Servant of the Lake?
It's the next game in the Rusty Lake series — the same studio behind Cube Escape, The Past Within and Underground Blossom. This one is a return to the classic formula: a single house, a single character, and a weekend of increasingly strange chores.
You arrive as the servant at the Vanderboom estate while visitors are on their way. Straighten the portraits, do the laundry, serve tea, wake up Aldous — and then things stop being normal. The story is set decades before Rusty Lake: Roots, during the era of Aldous and William Vanderboom, so fans of the series lore get a direct prequel to that game's events.
How it plays
- Daily tasks, surreal results. Simple chores like cleaning and serving breakfast turn into experiments, missing persons, and alchemical cleanup.
- Classic Rusty Lake puzzles. Point-and-click interaction, inventory puzzles, and the series' signature brand of quiet horror in broad daylight.
- A weekend structure. You need to survive the whole weekend in the house — each day brings new routines and new problems.
- 44 achievements. From "Waking up Aldous" to "Searching the Attic" — the full list is on Steam.
The early reactions from the Rusty Lake community have been loud. On r/rustylake the launch threads are full of people who finished it in the first 48 hours ("I loved it. I think it has the potential to be my favorite game of the Rusty Lake Series"), plus the usual pile of stuck players asking for attic-puzzle hints. That's the Rusty Lake pattern: the game's short, but the puzzles get people talking.
Steam price checked Sep 21, 2026: $7.99 full price. The launch discount (-25%, $5.99) has ended.
Worth a look if
- You've played any Rusty Lake or Cube Escape game and want the next one
- You like short, dense puzzle games you can finish in a weekend
- You're into weird narrative games where the housekeeping is never just housekeeping
Skip it if you want long-form gameplay — this is a compact adventure, in line with the rest of the series. One house, one weekend, a handful of hours.
