Is EA SPORTS FC 27 worth $69.99?

Pre-order if you live in Ultimate Team — the promo-objective early start has been the only real "perk" of the pre-order window for years, and FC 27 is no different. Pre-order also makes sense if The Grounds is the mode you actually want, since you'll get it day one either way but the early access to UT promos is the only pre-order-only benefit. If you play Career or Clubs, wait — the $69.99 won't change, the launch tuning will need a patch or two, and the first major sale is usually a 40-50% cut by Black Friday.

What you're actually paying for
- The Grounds mode. EA's new street-meets-stadium playground is the headline addition. EA Canada / Romania built it, the press hasn't gotten a full hands-on yet, and EA is keeping the rule set vague — but it's the most interesting design addition to the FC line in years. If that mode is your thing, $69.99 on day one is fair.
- Community-driven gameplay changes. EA's framing for the long-running fixes the community has been asking for: defensive AI, player movement, pace, animation responsiveness. "True-to-football gameplay" is PR. The actual changes will show up in launch reviews — read those before paying $69.99, not the marketing.
- Crossplay and split-screen. Same crossplay defaults as FC 25/26. Split-screen PvP and co-op are listed on the Steam page. If you play on PC with a console friend, this is the only real reason to upgrade from FC 26 — same player pool, finally.
- Updated rosters and kits. The 2026/27 season. Standard annual churn, but if you follow a promoted club, a star transfer, or a kit refresh, this is when it shows up.
Who should wait
- Career-mode-only players. The career improvements are usually iterative. The $69.99 will be the same on launch day as it is now. Black Friday cuts these in half almost every year.
- Players still happy with FC 26. EA's annual upgrades are smaller than they were in the FIFA era. If you're not deep into UT, the Grounds mode is the only "must-have" addition, and that's a single mode for $70.
- Anyone who wants the launch review verdict first. Day-one reviews usually land the day before launch, and they tell you whether "community-driven gameplay" actually means anything or is another PR phrase. The price doesn't change; the information does.
- Anyone without a stable online connection. Career and Pro Clubs can run offline, but UT is the focus, and UT without online is a stripped-down demo. If your internet is shaky, the $69.99 buys you less than it would for someone with a solid connection.
The verdict
If Ultimate Team is your thing, pre-order — same as every year. The Grounds is the only other real reason to pre-order, and only if you know that's the mode you'll spend your first 20 hours in. Everyone else should wait for the first sale, which is realistically 40-50% off by Black Friday, and accept the trade-off of getting less out of launch promo cycles.
