The Lantern of the Laughless Saint — Early Access, Explained
The game launched into Early Access on August 17, 2026, which means the version you buy today is honest about being a work in progress. Here's what's in the current build and what the devs have said about the road ahead.
NerveLabs is using Early Access to build the game with the community — balancing, content cadence, and priorities are co-decided with players rather than locked behind a roadmap vault.
What's in the current build
- The island and the Tower. The core open-world loop is in: exploring the island, following rumors, finding shortcuts into the Tower, and piecing together what's real versus delusion.
- Open-ended quests with real branches. Mercy, violence, compromise, deceit — the multiple-resolution design is in from day one, not promised for later.
- Co-op across the whole game. Online and split-screen co-op is live. See the co-op guide for the details.
- The theater. The audience mechanic — phantoms of the lives you've touched taking seats under the Tower — is active from early on.
What the devs have said about the plan
The store page is upfront: NerveLabs wants to make the game "the best it could be, together" with the community. What that means in practice: expect content updates to land in waves, expect balance to shift as feedback rolls in, and expect the island to grow. A pre-1.0 price increase is common in Early Access, though nothing specific has been announced — worth knowing before the launch discount ends.
Before you buy Early Access
- You're paying to play now and shape what comes — if you'd rather play a finished game, waiting is a perfectly valid choice.
- Check the Steam community hub for the latest known issues and patch notes before jumping in.
