What is The Lantern of the Laughless Saint?

NerveLabs' spin on the Morrowind formula: you don't follow a quest marker across a checklist map. You walk the land, follow rumors, read burned scraps of history, and meet the strange people who chased the same fever dream to the end of the world. Under the island's Tower sits a theater with an empty stage. The lives you mend or ruin become phantoms, and each phantom takes a seat in the audience. The fuller the house, the more the island responds — and the louder the applause when your final act comes.

It launched into Early Access today, August 17, 2026. Windows only for now — no Mac, Linux or console version announced.

How it plays

• Exploration first. The pitch is "you learn the land by walking it" — leads, side stories and shortcuts into the Tower instead of a straight campaign line.
• Open-ended quests. Mercy, violence, compromise, deceit — most quests have multiple resolutions and the game tracks the fallout.
• A weird cast. A giant toad learning to read, an ancient skeleton who wants to swim, a musician hunting something precious. Everyone has a theory for why you're here. None of them agree.
• Full co-op. The entire game is playable together — online, split-screen, or Remote Play Together. One of the few Morrowind-likes that lets a friend along for the whole thing.

Getting started (Early Access basics)

There's no character creator to agonize over at the start — the game drops you on the island and lets the world pull you forward. Two useful early habits: talk to everyone twice (rumors change as the island's state changes), and don't hoard lantern oil, because darkness in the Tower isn't cosmetic.

If your friend owns a copy, they can host a co-op session and you'll both progress together — progress carries across both solo and co-op saves.
