METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.2

The collection that finally gets MGS4 off the PS3 — 18 years after it launched. Vol.2 is out today (Aug 27, 2026) on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and both Switch consoles at $49.99. You get two full games — Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker in its HD version — plus Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, a digital soundtrack and a lore database.

What is Master Collection Vol.2?

It's the second half of KONAMI's Metal Gear reissue program. Vol.1, back in 2023, covered the MSX/NES originals and Metal Gear Solid 1 to 3. Vol.2 is the one people actually lost sleep over: MGS4 was the last Solid game still trapped on the PlayStation 3, and "MGS4 PC when?" ran as one of gaming's longest memes for the better part of two decades. Peace Walker had never touched modern hardware either.

So today's release closes a real gap. MGS4 is available outside the PS3 for the first time with enhanced visuals, achievements, trading cards and cloud saves. Peace Walker comes in its HD Collection version — the one that previously only existed on PS3 and Xbox 360. And Ghost Babel, the 2000 Game Boy Color spin-off, rides along as a purchase bonus.

What's in the box

• Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots — Solid Snake's final mission, the 2008 PS3 swan song. War-economy setting, OctoCamo suit, the Beauty and the Beast Unit. Strictly single-player.
• Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version) — Big Boss building a private army in the Cold War. Base-building plus sneaking, and online co-op for up to 6 players.
• Metal Gear: Ghost Babel — the series' first handheld title (2000), included as a bonus.
• Digital extras — the MGS4 Database, Screenplay Books and Master Books for both games, and the Digital Soundtrack Vol.2, all reachable from the in-game Start Menu.
• Vol.1 save-data bonus — owning any Vol.1 game on the same account unlocks Gold Camouflage in MGS4 and a GOLD uniform in Peace Walker.

How the two games play

MGS4 leans on the classic loop — third-person sneaking, knock-outs, hiding bodies, or going loud. Its signature is the OctoCamo suit that texture-matches whatever Snake hugs, and its set-pieces are pure theatre: a chase on a motorcycle, boss fights against four grief-obsessed gunwomen. It's Kojima at his most cinematic, with cutscenes long enough to plan dinner around.

Peace Walker is tighter and loopier. You're Big Boss in 1974, and instead of one long mission you chain compact ops from Mother Base: sneak in, extract targets (Fulton balloons send soldiers, tanks and even AI weapons back to base), then spend the spoils building up your army. It was designed for short PSP sessions and it still respects your time, which makes it the easier of the two to actually finish.

The bundle costs $49.99. Both games are also sold separately — MGS4 at $29.99 and Peace Walker at $19.99, which adds up to $49.98 — so the collection's real trick is that you get Ghost Babel and all the digital extras for basically the same money as buying the two games apart.
