Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
The A Plague Tale series drops the stealth and picks up twin blades. Resonance is a third-person action-adventure prequel from Asobo Studio, out since Aug 27, 2026 on Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — and it's on Game Pass from day one. You play Sophia, a young plunderer on the run, heading for the Minotaur's Island.
What is Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy?
It's an original story set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem, starring Sophia — in Requiem she was the smuggler captain who helped Amicia and Hugo, and here she gets her own origin story. Asobo calls her "a fierce young plunderer" on the run, chasing the secrets of her past. The journey lands her on the Minotaur's Island, where a mythical creature sits at the heart of a curse she has to break.
The tone shift is deliberate. Where Innocence and Requiem leaned on stealth, rats and hiding, Resonance is more forward: dual-blade combat, bigger set pieces, Greek mythology instead of the Inquisition. It's still very much an A Plague Tale game — heavy story, grim world, gorgeous presentation — but the combat is no longer something you avoid.
How it plays
- Full third-person combat. Sophia fights with twin blades up close, with dodging and parrying more in line with a straight action-adventure than the stealthy originals.
- Puzzle + stealth DNA remains. Early reviews lean on the same mix that made Requiem work: puzzles, light stealth, and a story that carries the whole thing.
- Greek myth setting. The Minotaur's Island is the backdrop — ruins, sea caves, mythic creatures — a big visual departure from medieval France.
- Single-player, story-first. No co-op, no multiplayer. Official playtime hasn't been confirmed, but Asobo's previous entries in the series land around 15-20 hours for a main run.

- You loved Requiem and want more of that world without replaying it
- You wanted A Plague Tale with real combat instead of rat-avoidance
- You have Game Pass — it costs you nothing to try
Skip it if a $49.99 price with no discount is a dealbreaker — the critics were split on it even though Steam players weren't — and it'll almost certainly drop in a sale before the holidays.
