Mistfall Hunter: 5 Beginner Mistakes That End Your Run
Mistfall Hunter is a dark fantasy extraction ARPG from Bellring Games ($22.49 on Steam with the current 10% discount). The genre twist is the hook: it plays like a Soulslike ARPG, but when you die, you don't just respawn — you lose what you brought in. That changes everything about how a beginner should play, and most new players learn it the expensive way.
1. Treating it like a normal ARPG (the biggest one)
In Diablo or Path of Exile, dying is a minor inconvenience. In an extraction game, dying means your gear is gone or in a salvage bag somewhere dangerous. New players push fights they'd normally win, then lose a full loadout. Do instead: treat every engagement as "is this fight worth my gear?" — because it might be the fight that ends your run.
2. Ignoring the extraction timer
Every run has a moment when you should leave. Beginners loot too long, miss the window, and die in the exit scramble. Do instead: set your own "this is when I leave" threshold before the timer forces you — better to extract with half a bag than to die with a full one.
3. Ignoring the monsters while you fight players
The community guides (Fextralife and others) all flag this one: PvPvE means monsters are still coming for you while you duel another player. Beginners tunnel on the human fight and get clipped from behind by the environment. Do instead: always know your escape line before you commit to a player fight.
4. Locking into one class too early
You can change your class — don't grind 10 hours on the first one you picked. The six classes (Mercenary, Sorcerer, Blackarrow, Shadowstrix, Seer, Withered Knight) all play differently, and the game shares your base progression across characters. Do instead: try 2–3 classes in the early hours to find your fit; your progression isn't wasted.
5. Not using the "safe" extraction rhythm
Veterans run a consistent loop: quick low-risk run to build resources → gear up → high-risk run with a clear objective. Beginners do the opposite — dive into the deep end with starter gear and wonder why they're broke. Do instead: alternate safe runs and risky runs on purpose, not by accident.
