What is Shatterverse, in one paragraph

Mental — the series' recurring big bad — has cracked the walls between universes, and the result is that multiple versions of Sam Stone from different realities now have to work together. Each Sam comes with a different look, voice, and kit, and the game leans into that hard: a level might throw you into a squad of two Sams, then a different run might pair you with three more. It's the new entry in the Serious Sam franchise, and the first one designed from the ground up as a roguelite rather than a linear campaign.

It's also the first Serious Sam game not developed by Croteam (the original team, now owned by Embracer, who are still doing their own thing on Serious Sam 4). Behaviour Interactive — the Montreal studio that built Dead by Daylight into a juggernaut — is the developer. Devolver Digital is publishing, which is a meaningful fit: this is a loud, weird, co-op-first arcade shooter with a publisher known for backing exactly that kind of game.

How it plays

• Roguelite structure, not a campaign. Runs are short, arenas shift, and progression lives in unlocks across runs (new boons, weapons, modifiers) rather than a hand-authored story mode.
• 1–5 player co-op, online. Drop in, drop out. The Steam page lists Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer, so a PC player can squad up with a PS5 player without drama. Solo is supported but the design is squad-first.
• Multi-Sam gimmick. The hook is that you play alongside other versions of Sam. Each alternate Sam has different abilities, so the same arena plays differently depending on who's in the squad.
• Classic Serious Sam weapons, more of them. Big miniguns, rocket launchers, sci-fi rifles, plus a bunch of new toys. The Steam description calls it "explosive, loud, and extremely violent," which is about the most Serious Sam sentence ever written.
• Run modifiers you can stack. Boons, modifiers, and upgrade choices that reshape how a run plays. Standard roguelite buffet — if you've played one you've played the rhythm, but the gunplay is the point.

Out today — August 31, 2026 — on Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Steam price is $19.99 full price off the regular $19.99. The launch discount was time-limited and that window has now closed. Console pricing typically mirrors the Steam number but isn't in the Steam API snapshot — check the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store for your region's local price.

Devolver published. Behaviour Interactive developed. The Serious Sam IP is still held by Croteam — Behaviour is licensing the brand for this roguelite spinoff, not rebooting the main series.
