Breathedge 2
Space survival-craft sequel from RedRuins Softworks, in Early Access on Steam since August 31, 2026 at $19.99 — the 20% launch discount is over. Same dry, Hitchhiker's-meets-Subnautica tone as the 2021 original, now with up to 4-player co-op — the headline feature that finally answers the most common complaint about the first game.
What is Breathedge 2?
It's the sequel to Breathedge, the 2021 space survival game that built a quiet cult following on the back of two things: a Hitchhiker's-Guide-style dry humor in the writing, and the immortal chicken sidekick called Polyhedron, who follows you around in a bubble. You scavenge wrecked space stations, build bases, fight hypoxia, and slowly uncover what wrecked the galaxy.
The sequel is again by RedRuins Softworks, published by HypeTrain Digital. It launched August 31, 2026 on Steam in Early Access at $15.99 with a 20% launch discount off the regular $19.99 — that discount has since ended. No console version has been announced.
What's new and how it plays
- Co-op for up to 4 players. The single biggest change. The first game was solo-only; the most common ask in Steam reviews was "let me play this with a friend." The sequel is built around it from day one.
- Bigger crafting tree. More tools, more upgrade paths. The original had a tight survival-craft loop; the sequel pushes the "upgrade and explore" half harder.
- More biomes, more derelicts. The pitch in the Steam description: "save a galaxy gone completely off the rails." Expect more variety in wreck types and the systems you're floating through.
- Polyhedron is still here. The immortal chicken in a bubble returns. Some things shouldn't change.
Release date and price
Out now — launched into Early Access on August 31, 2026 on Steam. It opened at $15.99, a 20% launch discount off the regular $19.99, and that window has closed: the game is $19.99 now. No release date for the 1.0 full launch yet — this is a true Early Access day one, not a polished launch dressed up as EA.
Steam price checked Sep 21, 2026: $19.99 full price. The launch discount (-20%, $15.99) has ended.
Worth a look if
- You played the 2021 Breathedge and wanted co-op the whole time
- You're into Subnautica-style "scavenge wrecks, build a base, slowly figure out the lore" loops with a more sarcastic tone
- You have one or two friends who are also space-survival-curious — co-op is the reason to show up on day one
Hold off if you've been burned by survival-craft Early Access launches before. This is day-one EA — expect placeholder systems, balance swings, and content that's marked as "coming later." Reviews for this kind of launch are usually a coin flip in the first month.
