Is Shift At Midnight Crossplay?
Partially — and this is the most commonly asked question about the game right now, because the answer isn't obvious and people keep getting burned by it.
Per the official Shift At Midnight Discord: "Xbox console players can play with PC Gamepass players. Steam doesn't…" — Steam players are in their own matchmaking pool.
The full breakdown
- Xbox Series X/S ↔ PC Game Pass: crossplay works. Same ecosystem, same pool.
- Steam ↔ Xbox or Game Pass: does not work. A Steam player cannot join an Xbox player, period.
- Steam ↔ Steam: works fine, obviously.
- PS5: not a thing — the game isn't on PlayStation at all.
Why it keeps coming up: quite a few people bought the game on Game Pass specifically to play with Steam friends, found out the hard way, and said so loudly — the r/ShiftAtMidnight subreddit has a thread exactly like that from the first week. If your group is split between Steam and Xbox, decide on one platform before anyone buys, or you'll be watching two lobbies from two couches.
