Wanderburg demo

Most demos vanish when the game launches, and as of September 26, 2026 this one has joined them — the Steam app that hosted the Wanderburg demo now redirects to the store front, no demo shows on the game page, and Steam's store search returns nothing for it. That is a change from September 12, when this page last checked: more than a month after launch, Randwerk's demo was still sitting on Steam as its own app, holding a 92% positive score from 1,305 reviews while the paid Early Access version sold beside it. Delisted demos do come back, so check the Wanderburg store page before you plan around either version.

The demo's report card, in numbers

This is one of the most trial-tested indie releases of the year, and the receipts are public. Over 200,000 players ran the demo before launch. During February 2026's Steam Next Fest it was the #7 most played demo out of roughly 3,500 entries. The review count crossed a thousand with the ratio intact at 92% — and in the 30 days after the full game launched, the 40 newest demo reviews sit at 95% positive. A free build that holds its score across seven months and a launch is doing something right.

The honest summary: the demo is the full thesis of the game in one biome. If steering a top-heavy stone tower — momentum, turning radius, weapons that only fire where they face — makes you grin, the Early Access version adds breadth, not a different sport. If it makes you seasick, no amount of extra content fixes that, and you just saved $15.

One warning before you queue it up

The demo teaches the grasslands meta, and only that. Players coming from the demo into Early Access keep discovering that bigger enemy fortresses can pull themselves toward you when you get close — a trick the tutorial grasslands barely prepares you for. Fun detail from the launch window: several demo veterans reported their first Early Access deaths came from treating every fight like a grasslands brawl. Approach distance matters more once the bigger castles show up.
