What is Big Ambitions?

It's a business sim where you play a person, not a spreadsheet. You live in New York, work a job, and build businesses — a vending machine here, a small shop there, then restaurants, warehouses, and eventually a corporation with staff and logistics. The twist is the RPG layer: your character has needs (energy, hunger), a social life, and you physically walk around the city managing everything. It's The Sims' economy crossed with a tycoon game, minus the fantasy.

Hovgaard Games has been building it in public since 2020, with Early Access running since March 2023. The community is devoted — the subreddit is full of "show me your empire" posts and screenshots of elaborately furnished shops. The 1.0 announcement thread hit the front page of the game's subreddit within hours, and the pinned reaction from one regular was "I can finally make a series on the game now" — they'd been waiting for the full release to start long-form content.

What changes in 1.0

The 1.0 release is in its final stretch, and the devs have been peeling back details in Steam news posts. Confirmed so far: a Pricing Manager employee who can update prices across an entire neighborhood at once, with higher-skilled staff suggesting best prices daily, plus a reworked import/export economy where over-exporting now drags down that item's weekly price. The 1.0 beta has been running with the community since early August, and Steam Workshop support (added in Early Access 0.11) carries into the full release.

How it plays

• Start small: a job, an apartment, and a few hundred dollars. Your first business is usually a vending machine or a tiny retail unit.
• Build what you want: dozens of business types — retail, restaurants, offices, warehouses — each with its own staff, pricing, and layout decisions.
• Walk the city: you physically visit your properties in a modeled New York, from Hell's Kitchen to the Garment District.
• Balance the person, not just the company: your character gets tired, hungry, and needs a life. Burnout is a real mechanic.
• Scale up: hire managers, automate the day-to-day, and grow from one shop to a logistics-backed corporation.

The honest take: if you bounced off tycoon games because they're pure menus, this one gives you a world to walk around in. If you wanted a deep logistics sim, the mid-game is where it gets real — the first few hours are deliberately simple.
