BRIGANDINE ABYSS factions: the six nations
Story Mode in BRIGANDINE ABYSS is six campaigns, one per nation: Gran Dragnica, Scarlet Will, Mysteine, Purifanoe, Samura Village and Pandemyuon. You don't unlock them by finishing the game — you pick one up front and the whole campaign is shaped by that choice. Here's what's confirmed, what's still community-sourced, and whether the pick actually matters.
The six playable nations
Steam's official feature list confirms Story Mode offers six distinct nations, each with its own storyline set in motion by the rebirth of the Abyssloa Empire. One of them, the magical realm of Mysteine, is named in the game's official story text — the queen of Mysteine is the one rallying the other rulers. The full six documented by the community (brigandineabyss.wiki and the r/Brigandine subreddit) are:
- Gran Dragnica — the dragon-themed nation, per the community wiki description of its army and leaders
- Scarlet Will
- Mysteine — carries on sorcerer Lunadea's legacy; the one nation named in the official story
- Purifanoe
- Samura Village — the samurai-styled nation
- Pandemyuon
Per-nation leader rosters and army compositions are still being documented as of launch day — we're only listing what's corroborated. The exact ruler for each nation isn't officially detailed yet beyond Mysteine's queen, so treat the granular faction guides you see elsewhere as early community work.
Story Mode vs Mission Mode
- Story Mode: six nations, six campaigns, each told from that nation's perspective. This is the mode reviewers played for their launch impressions.
- Mission Mode: pick from 24 nations, each with its own win condition. This is where the replay structure opens up — win conditions change what a "successful" campaign looks like.
- Challenge scenarios: reviews (Noisy Pixel) count 24 extra challenge scenarios on top, with goals like using only one unit type or beating the map without upgrading a base.
Which nation should you start with?
Honest answer: there's no confirmed difficulty tiering between the six at launch, and the official materials don't rank them. What reviewers do agree on:
- The game is deliberately a clean entry point to the series, so no nation is a "veterans only" trap.
- Your first campaign will be your slowest — Noisy Pixel notes a second run goes noticeably smoother once you know how bases, quests and class changes fit together.
- If you want the story that ties to the series lore, Mysteine is the one with confirmed connective tissue (it carries on Lunadea's legacy from the official backstory).
If you're only planning one campaign, any of the six works for the core strategy loop. If you plan several, the one that matters is the second one — that's when you'll actually feel the faction differences.
Bottom line
Faction choice changes your perspective and your win condition, not the fundamentals. Pick the ruler whose vibe you like, treat the first campaign as a learning run, and let Mission Mode's 24 nations be your long-term playground.
