NBA 2K27 PC system requirements
The official spec sheet from the Steam store, with a plain-English read on what "SSD required" actually means for older gaming PCs.

What "SSD required" really means
2K has been progressively tightening the storage requirement. 2K24 was happy on a 7200rpm HDD; 2K26 wanted an SSD; 2K27 lists it as mandatory. Practically, this means:
- The game will install on an HDD, but loading times into MyCAREER, The City, and online matches will be long enough that you'll quit before the first tip-off.
- Texture streaming on HDD causes pop-in on courts, in The City, and during replays — visible enough to break the immersion 2K's animation team is selling.
- Save files in MyCAREER and MyTEAM are large (multiple GB after a couple of seasons) and writes get slower on HDD the more you play.
A SATA SSD is fine. NVMe is better, but the bottleneck here is random read/write, not sequential throughput, so the jump from a 2018-era NVMe to a 2024 one is small. If you're upgrading a 2017-era gaming PC for 2K27, an SSD is the most cost-effective piece.
Will my old GPU run it?
GTX 1060 6GB (the older 6GB version): the official minimum is the 5GB version, which is unusual. The 6GB is more common and slightly faster; it will run 2K27 at medium settings but you'll feel the load times in The City.
GTX 1070 / 1080 / 1080 Ti: fine for medium-high at 1080p. 2K27's PC build tends to favor high-clocked older cards over low-VRAM newer ones.
RTX 3060 / 4060 / RX 6700 XT and up: comfortable at high-ultra 1080p, fine at 1440p.
Anything older than GTX 1060 (9-series, 7-series, HD 7000): skip it. The DirectX 12 feature level 12.0 requirement is a hard floor — older cards physically cannot run the renderer.
Will my old CPU run it?
The minimum CPU is a 6-core / 6-thread from 2018-2019. The recommended is a 6-core / 12-thread from 2020. Real-world:
- i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 2600: passes minimum but the game throttles during The City traversal with a full crew online.
- i5-9400 / Ryzen 5 3600: smooth on minimum spec. Where the bottleneck shows is loading screens between MyCAREER games, not the gameplay.
- i5-10400 / Ryzen 5 3600X / i5-11400: comfortable recommended. The 2K27 PC build is single-thread-light, multi-thread-aware — six cores is the sweet spot.
RAM, controller, and the rest
8GB minimum is real — 2K27's PC build will run on 8GB but allocates heavily to the in-game store and image-streaming, so you want a clean Windows install if you're on 8. 16GB is the right target.
Dual-analog gamepad recommended. 2K has always been a controller game; keyboard works but the dribble moves and shot-stick rely on analog input. An Xbox or PS5 pad is fine.
DirectX 12, Visual C++ 2019, Steam auth all need to be installed before the first launch. The first install needs a one-time internet connection for Steam authentication even if you buy the disc.
