Visual Concepts' annual basketball sim, out September 3, 2026 on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The hook is the same one 2K has been selling for years — ProPLAY animation tech, MyCAREER story, The City, MyTEAM — but this is the first year since 2K26 that the community is openly asking whether the pre-order is even worth the 10,000 VC bonus.
What is NBA 2K27?
The next annual installment from Visual Concepts, published by 2K, continuing the series that owns the licensed basketball sim space by default. It's a sports game built around three pillars: MyCAREER (single-player story mode as a created player climbing to the league), MyTEAM (card-based fantasy squad building with NBA and WNBA players), and the open-world City hub where MyPLAYERs grind badges, rep and gear.
Pre-purchase is live now on Steam, with a 10,000 Virtual Currency bonus attached to the Standard Edition. Console pre-orders carry the same bonus. As of late August 2026, 2K hasn't published the higher-tier edition contents (Hall of Fame / Superstar editions) on the Steam page — those typically get fleshed out closer to launch or post-launch.
What's actually new
- ProPLAY is back, harder. Visual Concepts' direct-from-NBA-footage animation pipeline is the headline tech for the second year. Expect the same fundamentals (real footwork, real release motion) with refinements to shooting and dribble responsiveness — the two things 2K players complain about most.
- MyCAREER, new story. A new legacy-defining run. The story is light on the page right now; expect more details from the Aug 18 reveal window 2K teased in its pre-order comms.
- The City, refreshed. The City's the connective tissue between MyCAREER, Park, Rec, and the side activity grind. 2K's been iterating on this for five years; the 2K27 trailer leans into crew-based play and a more lived-in feel.
- MyTEAM, same core. Card collection, single-player and multiplayer. If you bounce between years of MyTEAM, this is where the actual season-to-season changes (new card tiers, new modes) land — none of that's detailed on the Steam page yet.

Out worldwide September 3, 2026. Standard Edition is $69.99 on Steam with no launch discount. Pre-purchase the Standard Edition and you get 10,000 Virtual Currency (about $1.99 of in-store value at standard 2K pricing) plus whatever console-specific bonuses apply on PS5 / Xbox / Switch.

PC system requirements
NBA 2K is one of the few big annual sports sims that still ships on Steam, and the spec sheet hasn't budged much from last year. Note the mandatory SSD on the official spec — not optional.

- You're already deep in 2K26 and want the badge progress and VC to carry forward
- You play split-screen / online with a regular crew — MyCAREER's been crew-first for years and 2K27 isn't changing that
- 10,000 VC is a useful starter pool and you don't mind tying your money up before reviews
Skip the pre-order if you wait for reviews, the 2K pre-order discount window has already closed on the prior title and 2K hasn't said yet when the 2K27 discount will run, or you only want the single-player MyCAREER — most of the value of 2K is in the long online grind, and you don't need to pre-purchase to start that grind a week after launch.
