STAR WARS Zero Company
The turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor and EA, out now — August 27, 2026 — on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. You lead an elite squad through the twilight of the Clone Wars, and the hook is simple: it's the closest Star Wars has come to XCOM.
What is STAR WARS Zero Company?
Single-player, squad-based, turn-based tactics — a genre Star Wars has mostly dodged since the old Rebellion days. You play Hawks, a former Republic officer handed command of Zero Company for an operation against a threat that "will consume the galaxy if left unchecked," per the official description. Missions split between tactical battlefield engagements and quieter base-of-operations planning, and your decisions are meant to change how each playthrough runs.
Developer Bit Reactor was founded by Firaxis veterans — the studio's pitch from day one was Star Wars XCOM, and the press has gone with that framing too (PC Gamer's launch coverage literally opens on it). EA and Lucasfilm Games publish. It launched worldwide August 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X|S, with Steam also carrying Mac and Linux builds.
How it plays
- Squad of archetypes. Zero Company pulls from "scoundrels to astromechs, or even a Jedi" — the roster spans the usual clone-war era den of smugglers, droids and Force users instead of five clone flavors.
- Hawks is yours. His combat specialization and appearance are customizable, and you can build the rest of the team with original and custom-made characters — tailoring loadouts, appearance and abilities per operative.
- Synergies matter. Squad members learn to work together on deployments and unlock combat synergies as they fight side by side.
- Base + battlefield. You plan at your base, then execute on an ever-shifting battlefield. Outcomes of decisions feed back into how runs differ.

The first-week verdict
Too early for a full review — it's been out a day — but the shape is clear: this is a $49.99, single-player-only tactics game carrying a Star Wars license and a proper XCOM pedigree. If you liked Phoenix Point, Troubleshooter or the old XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it's aimed squarely at you. If you want a Star Wars action game, it isn't that. Reviews from IGN, PC Gamer and co. were rolling out at launch — read those before paying full price, or wait for the first EA sale, which is how most of these games get cheaper.
