Halloween: The Game
The Michael Myers multiplayer horror game from IllFonic — the Friday the 13th and Predator: Hunting Grounds studio — launched on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 8, 2026. One player is the Boogeyman, up to four are Heroes of Haddonfield, and Halloween night 1978 never ends.
What is Halloween: The Game?
A 1v4 asymmetrical horror sandbox set on Halloween night, 1978. One player dons the mask as Michael Myers and stalks the residents of Haddonfield with stealth, shadows and a nightmarish set of abilities. Up to four others play Heroes of Haddonfield, arming themselves with weapons and everyday household items to rescue families, alert the authorities and survive the night.
Developer IllFonic has been here before — it built Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds — and it co-publishes with Gun Interactive. The official site sells the pitch as a "living, breathing game world": dynamic map features, NPC interactions and multiple gameplay systems layered over the chase. Beyond the multiplayer, there's a standalone single-player story, "The Night He Came Home," told through Michael's eyes.
Release date, platforms and price
Out September 8, 2026 on PC (Steam + Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The standard edition is $39.99 on Steam — re-checked September 25, 2026, still no discount — and full crossplay between platforms was confirmed back in June. Physical editions follow on October 6, 2026. One wrinkle: it was refused classification in Australia at one point, so Oceania players should check local store availability.
Standard edition price on Steam, verified on launch day and re-checked September 25, 2026 (discount_percent: 0 — nobody who paid $39.99 has been undercut). The Digital Deluxe Upgrade is $19.99 on top, so the Deluxe Edition is $59.99 total. Not on Game Pass at announcement.
What the community is saying
The DBD crowd has been watching this one for months. On the game's subreddit, fans are asking the pointed questions — "Will Halloween end up being the long-term rival competitor for [Dead by Daylight]?" and "Can we fight against Michael Myers?" — and getting answers from a dev team that posts directly to the community. Now the receipts are in — and they've moved: day one landed "Mostly Positive", and by September 25 the game sits at 67% positive on 14,961 reviews ("Mixed"), with performance and bug reports overtaking the early matchmaking and balance complaints.
Launch week vs. now
On September 8 the game sat at 5,794 Steam reviews with 72% positive and roughly 19,200 concurrent players. By September 25, 2026 it's at 14,961 reviews and 67% positive — Steam's label has slipped from "Mostly Positive" to "Mixed" — with about 6,100 people playing when we checked. No IllFonic game opened anywhere near this hot; the slide from 72% to 67% in two and a half weeks is what a bug-heavy launch looks like when people paid $39.99 for it.
The negative bucket has settled into a consistent list: frame rates and forced Lumen, Myers bugs, janky animations, matchmaking, and a mission design built on escort objectives. The positives point the same way every time — Haddonfield does real work, and the single-player story gives solo players something this genre usually skips. So: a wait-for-a-few-patches purchase at $39.99, unless you're a Michael Myers devotee, in which case the horror-movie fantasy is the whole point.
